Composition and Light
Composition: Framing
Laurier sculpture, framed by the carved characters -Park at Peel and René-Lévesque, around 12pm, full light, but this sculpture was shaded from the trees |
The "goalie" is framed by the hood of the car (and the way the light was reflecting off of it) -around 1pm, shadow from building was cast over this scene - This photograph also demonstrates a rule of thirds composition and diffuse light |
More of a conceptual framing device here, I was thinking that the cropping that I was using while taking the shot made the whole composition look like a flag (think of the American flag) - between 1pm and 2pm, hard light |
The (bronze?) apple in this Westmount yard is framed by the surrounding trees and terrain (especially the darker parts) - Between 1pm and 2pm, full sun |
Composition: Rule of Thirds
The original shot was a bit larger, but I decided to crop this shot so that the red brick area would be at 1/3 of the width, and that the white metal siding above it would be at 1/3 of the height - Around 12pm; full light around, but low light in the alleyway - this photograph also demonstrates diffuse light |
I caught a glimpse of these flowers in between two trees, and it made for a great occasion to create a rule of thirds composition - Between 1pm and 2pm, full sun - this photograph also demonstrates framing |
Composition: Vantage Point
This weird building...needed to be photographed. The vantage point is from underneath and looking sideways, and it reveals an interesting perspective - Between 12pm and 1pm, mid-strength light |
Looking at one of my favorite sculptures that I have in my apartment (artist is Maskull Lasserre) from underneath. It was tricky to get the focus in the right spot while staying still, but this one worked out - Diffuse light coming from a window |
Finally getting the hang of the freeze shot. I was crouched and wetting myself to get this angle! Somewhere around 1pm, full light |
For this shot, I was a foot from the floor. I love how all the beings are framing the shadow of the dog on the door - Indoors, at night (camera was resting on a low shelf) - this photograph also demonstrates framing for the shadow
Light: Contrasty Light
Clouds were moving in front of the sun when this shot was taken, around 1:30pm. |
Clouds were moving in front of the sun when this shot was taken, around 2pm. |
The sun was getting much lower at this point, somewhere around 4pm, a bit overcast |
Taken in the forest on an overcast/rainy day
Light: Window Light
The sleepy dog, illuminated by soft light through the window. |
Dining room, with window light illuminating most of the room and some elements illuminated by hard light. |
